Naomi Ozaniec's "The Watkins Tarot Handbook" is an easy to read guide on how to use the Tarot as a tool to discover the inner self. I have now found myself going back over the material and I am attempting the outlined meditations. The first is on the Archetype of "the Self" which is a great place to start (like those maps in shopping centres YOU ARE HERE). The two cards used to express the Idea of the Self were Tarot Trump 0 "The Fool" and Trump XXI "The World". The first thing that strikes me about these two cards is that they are the first and last cards in the 22 (numbered zero to twenty one) Major arcana Tarot Trumps. The Fool is the initial spark of spirit in motion towards the process of manifestation, whereas The Word is the unity and celebration of Manifestation. You don't get the feeling that one is the beginning and one is the end though. To me it feels more circular, spirit descending and becoming manifest then through union (male, female, the physical, emotional, psychological, and intuitive) transcending again in victory. The impression this gives me is that the Self is the expression of this divine spark throughout the journey. Our earthly life provides a medium for spirit, the self provides a framework on how the Spirit will manifest. Through the expression of Spirit the self becomes individual, and through us as a vessel its expression becomes individual like a light being shone through different colored paper. These two cards provide a glimpse of where we came from and how to return. At both ends it seams to be a very joyous affair too. The Fool excited and full of wonder lust, The World with the dancing hermaphrodite encircled within the Laurel wreath of victory. We come from this boundless abundance of pure potential as expressed in the Fool. And The the celebration of mastery in manifestation in the World shows a unity and oneness that leads us to our return. This process may feel like a death and may at its most intense terrify us and at its least unsettle us. This is the price of finding our howl, our own one of a kind authentic voice, and there is no way around it? The only way out of our self-erected prison is to go through it completely. There is no quick escape, every square inch of our imprisonment must be touched and lived through before it can be abandoned." The .pdf file on the website is a very short story told through a nature myth about the death that is necessary before re-birth into a new way of seeing, knowing and experiencing. To me it seemed to contain an astonishing parallel to the Gnostic Gospel reading for this Sunday, Templar Sunday: *The gospel is taken from the Gospel according to St. Thomas: * Jesus said: I have cast fire upon the world, and see, I guard it until the world is afire. Jesus said: Men possibly think that I have come to throw peace upon the world, and they do not know that I have come to throw divisions upon the earth, fire, sword, war. For there shall be five in a house: three shall be against two and two against three, the father against the son and the son against the father, and they will stand alone. Jesus said: Whoever does not hate his father and mother will not be able to be a disciple to me, and whoever does not hate his brethren and sisters and does not take up his cross in my way will not be worthy of me. (taken from http://gnosis.org/ecclesia/lect159.htm) Taking up our cross, putting down all that we ever knew, and walking. Death and re-birth, of the old image, for the g-new. Peace and love in sharing the Holy Gnosis with all the Templar Martyrs, Trish -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... My friend James has been in a long struggle with a very unpleasant skin cancer. He has suffered from poor health through a lot of his life. The skin cancer is the result of a side-effect of drugs he was receiving after a kidney transplant. His last few years have been extremely unpleasant. I received news this morning that James died, peacefully at home with his parents. Despite the release granted him by his death, it's also a terribly sad time for his friends and family who have been with him through this horrible journey of the last few years. None of us wanted him to linger, but we also didn't want him to die. It's that contradiction that I think forms some of the core of grief. Please in the next couple of weeks pray for the soul of James Denton, that the Hidden Father receive him into his loving arms. Please pray also for James's family, his mum Bridget, his father Mick and his brothers Gerard and Michael and for his friends and carers, especially Isobel, Kathleen, Sarah, Ron and Nicole. Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord. And may light perpetual shine up on him. I'm shedding a sorrowful tear. I've never heard of a struggle like his, nor the brand of fortitude you've described him as having mustered in response to such unfathomable adversity. I'm (in one sense) so pleased that his confusing, painful journey over recent times appears to have ended.Pausing on this email in the midst of my usual busyness has sorely reminded me of how elementally precious these healthy days we're granted are. I was not planning to (and there probably will not be enough time to) come back to Dulwich Hill in between. Are you OK to make your own way into town by 5:30pm? 2) I'm picking up some snack & tea replenishment for the cupboard.
