In the next few weeks, I'm hoping to print some brochures and flyers to leave around town to let more people know what we're doing and hopefully grow the congregation a little. I've been covering a lot of the costs for most of the time we've been going, but mid-2008, I shifted to a half-time job in order to work on parish stuff more and get finished with my seminary studies more quickly. The consequence of that is that I don't have much disposable income. Quite a few people have tried to help by handing me cash on a Sunday, which is great, but it's often hard to remember to bring money to church and it's difficult for remote people like Jamie who want to help to do that. So, I've set up a page with some Paypal links on the parish website. There are two buttons: one is for one-off donations, the other is a regular subscription for $20 per month. http://www.saint-uriels.org/support What I'm after initially is feedback on the page itself: is the wording OK? Does the basic setup make sense? Is it easy to use? Is it prominent enough? Should it have a link to a current budget spreadsheet so people know where the money goes? Please take a look, see how it sits with you and let me know. If you're of a mind to make a donation, go right ahead :) If it all seems OK, I'll send it to the announcement list in a few days. At least one person has replied that they aren't sure about contributing because they aren't sure what the money would be for. I've been keeping a cashbook for the parish for the last year to track that stuff. The results so far are here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pQxJnlJOr2j2PDhq8xVNOQw Currently I handle all the printing of the service books and any brochures at home, so that doesn't end up on here, but it's been quite a lot of printing in the last year. I'd also like to go back to having flowers at the service like I used to back in Marrickville. The other things that I'd like to do that aren't reflected on the current expenses are doing essentially marketing: printing a big bundle of brochures that communicate who we are and what we're doing. I'd like to get these dropped anywhere interested people might be: bookshops, the Theosophical Society, etc. I'd also like to do the small amount of work necessary to get the church setup as a non-profit corporation in Australia so it can have its own bank accounts and so on and I can start to work towards practical things like getting our priests (currently just me, but soon, hopefully more) recognised as marriage celebrants, getting public liability insurance so we can rent things like retreat centres. The registrations for that stuff cost a few hundred dollars for filing with ASIC. This is all a bit in the future, but just to let you know where my thinking is going. I hope that gives you a better sense of why the topic of donations have come up. regards Tim+ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I am volunteering at Wayside once each fortnight, counseling training at a government non profit organisation, organising and facilitating critical thinking lessons and other psychology related topics, researching for a thesis on a psychology book I am co-authoring and am starting at college this week. Thanks for offering us a chance to offer ourselves to the Divine, so to speak, on Ash Wednesday. With 40 days of eating a little less during Lent, with the side effect of freeing the attention that is usually focussed on 'getting' the little pleasures to be able to 'give' a little more in the name of divine service, I wonder if the early Christians could possibly have known they were the original instigators of a sort of Boot Camp. Lynette, lots of warm cups of tea wishes sent your way, I hope you feel better soon, and Karyn, it's great to hear that you're so engaged with 'divine service', in the world, Peace, Trish -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
