We're in the Oxford St neighbourhood and we're a church that welcomes the GLBT community. I'd thought about just dropping flyers along Oxford St, but I wondered whether the people I'd reach were the people who'd be interested. Recently, I'd been thinking about placing an ad in one of the street papers like the Sydney Star Observer or SX, since they're distributed all over. I called the ad guy at the SSO for some information and I've been planning to work on an ad over the next couple of weeks. Then, yesterday, I got a phone call from the ad guy offering me a very low rate for a 1/4 page ad on the front of the SSO if I could get him artwork by today. (They've just done a 30th anniversary issue which soaked up a lot of advertisers, I think.) Given the circulation of the paper and the placement of the ad, the deal seemed good to me, so I said "sure" and went a ahead and got a simple ad together. The plan was to consult with you folks a little on the plan and the wording before finally booking an ad, but circumstances have made that hard. I've attached the ad artwork (please don't tell me about typos!). I hope this seems like an OK move. The cost is not high, but it is significant, so if you'd like to support this effort to reach out to the GLBT community, please consider dropping a contribution to help out with the cost in the online collection bowl: http://www.saint-uriels.org/support I hope this message finds you well. My blessings for the week. Tim+ -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... The SSO is out today with our ad in it. I misunderstood - I thought the ad was on the cover, but it's actually under the cover story, which means it's on p14 under the story whose lead is on the cover. Anyway, it's 1/4 of a page the other 3/4 of which is the story about the Br?no movie - quite eye-catching and slightly amusing. Let's see if it leads to any body making contact. Tim+
