Monika's Doggie Rescue, a Sydney animal welfare institution, with a long history and a no-kill policy has been taking on death-row dogs and rehoming them for years. They are on the verge of collapse, but have launched a last ditch appeal for donations. From the website, it looks like they need $75k to avoid closure, and the Emergency appeal total meter when i just looked was a mere $10k short of that total - so they are quite close to making it. (in fact, its often better if you dont, as then people dont go into 'im being photographed' mode. then go through them, chuck out the bulk of them, and i'd put money on what you are left with being a handful of really quite special shots. many more than if you sat back and waited for the 'moment' to capture and took only one or two. all of that said, a decent photographer has a sense of natural composition, awareness of light quality and direction, and a bunch more - but these things all come from spending time sifting through photos looking for the ones that work, and trying to get a feel for why. if you only ever take a handful, its hard to develop these senses. my 2c worth. The crosshead assembly is also interesting - it's not like you could easily rebore your cylinders and chuck in some new piston rings after 20K kms. Also - power bands - they state that it runs at 50% efficiency at maximum economy - I guess being diesel the engine is designed only for pure torque. I can't help imagining a tuned exhaust system though - container ships leaping into overdrive when they hit 700 rpm ;) cheers, ix_hel 2009/4/28 Ben Dixon : > http://people.bath.ac.uk/ccsshb/12cyl/ > > ?_______________________________________________ > eclectika mailing list > eclectika@wudee.net > http://laika.gnusto.com/mailman/listinfo/eclectika > > -- the connotation depends on the beacon, as usual From loch at pobox.com Tue Apr 28 19:29:53 2009 From: loch at pobox.com (Andrew Loch) Date: Tue Apr 28 19:30:12 2009 Subject: [eclectika] robotic penguins Message-ID: <1240964993.4811.2.camel@localhost> -------- Forwarded Message -------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5JHMpLIqO4&feature=player_embedded From anna.e.milan at gmail.com Thu Apr 30 06:29:03 2009 From: anna.e.milan at gmail.com (Anna Milanowicz) Date: Thu Apr 30 06:29:13 2009 Subject: [eclectika] Ooooh... what cool concrete. :) Message-ID: <7051C616-9106-4347-8227-E3C5B8D442DD@gmail.com> http://dornob.com/see-through-light-transmitting-concrete-material/ From anna.e.milan at gmail.com Thu Apr 30 06:41:54 2009 From: anna.e.milan at gmail.com (Anna Milanowicz) Date: Thu Apr 30 06:42:05 2009 Subject: [eclectika] why can't all bus stops be this cool?
