Some big dramas have been going down at the radio station I'm on.
2XX is a community FM station in Canberra run by volunteers, with
just a few paid staff, including the Station Manager (a bit like 4ZZZ).
Lately the manager has been making some very strange decisions
such as getting rid of key volunteers, replacing local content with
cheesy hit tunes and making changes to the studio that make it
less functional, all with no meaningful communication with the
volunteers. It's a great example of change management done badly.
I missed the last meeting, but from the minutes it sounds even more
fraught than than the last couple of meetings I was at. (my *stars &
#hashes replacing names):
"[Recording difficult to transcribe at this point due to M* being shouted
down by M# and P*]. S* criticized M# for taking exception to M*’s
comment about the Station Manager, likening it to her comments
‘bagging’ K*. A colloquial emphasis was used and apologized for. M#
and P* became very agitated and physically and aggressively moved
into his personal space. [The record taker found this highly disturbing]"
The battle has leaked out on to the wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2XX
"As of 2007, 2XXfm hosts speciality music, talk, opinion and ethnic
programmes run by over 200 individuals and community
organisations. It used to take some programming from the
Community Broadcasting Association of Australia Digital Delivery
Network and the BBC World Service, however the arseholes now
running the station removed the equipment necessary for this to
occur before installing operating replacements."
